I’m Luiz Lepchak (Brasil, 1990), a Sound Designer and Film Composer, and I currently live in Curitiba.
I studied Cinema at EICTV in Cuba – as a Brazil’s Ministry of Culture scholarship holder (2014 - 2017), as well as Sound and Music Production at UFPR (2008 - 2012).
I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate in over 50 films of a variety of genres and backgrounds, many of which have also been seen and heard at important film festivals across the globe and led me to receive 4 awards for my work.
I develop the conceptualization of sound and music within a studio environment, but I also push myself to direct creative projects I’ll be completely involved in, from screenplay writing to on location sound recording.
I’m a member of A3pS – Brazilian Association of Audio Post-Production Professionals, as well as of a Latin American sound designers collective called STEMS since 2017. I teach as a guest professor at CHAVÓN (Dominican Republic) since 2019, and have twice taken part in a Berlinale Talents network of emerging filmmakers, Berlin 2019 and Buenos Aires 2020.
As a music composer, I created the @cafilasounds platform as an effort to make experimental film scoring for silent images.
As a director, I shot That Same Old Station, a documentary short film about nostalgia through sound and radio waves in Cuba.
I play electric bass as a member of Guaná, a rock band. We recorded the Aqueles Primeiros Dias EP, which is available on all streaming platforms.
I’m a vegetarian who has been learning how to play the clarinet for
a couple of years now.
